Bram Stoker’s Dracula has been dragged on screen several times by a variety of filmmakers, most memorable in Francis Ford Coppola’s lavish misfire. But while others have taken liberties with the story over the years and the ol’ bloodsucker has cropped up everywhere from spaceships to porn, there hasn’t been a truly official new chapter in the vampiric tale.
Until now, that is. Ian Holt, Stoker’s great grandnephew, has penned The Un-Dead, a new book that has the full stamp of approval from the family, and Jan De Bont’s Blue Tulip Productions has nabbed the rights to make the film.
Ernest Dickerson will direct the story from Holt’s script, which pics up 25 years after the original tome, with a batch of new characters introduced, including Jack The Ripper. Oooh, shoe-horning in another famous historical villain? There’s a fresh idea.
Once a cast is in place, the shoot will kick off in Eastern Europe later this year. That sound? The children of the night, busy biting their nails and hoping that this one doesn’t... suck? Bite? Oh, add your own witty ending, then.
