Doug Liman fills his Jumper
Jamie Bell leaps on board the teleporting adventure
Doug Liman has found three thesps for his teleporting thriller – try saying that six times quickly.
Jamie Bell, Tom Sturridge and Teresa Palmer will star in Jumper, Liman’s film about a kid from a broken home who discovers he can teleport. Sturridge takes the lead, with Bell co-starring as a fellow “jumper” who shows him the ropes and helps him on his mission to find the man he thinks killed his mother. Palmer has signed up as the love interest.
With a hefty budget, plenty of visual effects on board and a shoot set for Tokyo, Rome, Toronto and New York, this is the first part of a planned trilogy. Looks like Liman is fully embracing the blockbuster style following his box office success with Mr & Mrs Smith. Smith scribe Simon Kinberg has finished re-tooling David Goyer’s original script and the film will roll into production in June.
So it’s officially true – between this and the recent option of Alfred Bester’s novel The Stars My Destination, revenge-driven teleporters are the new cool subject in Hollywood. Next week, Rob Schneider announces he’ll star in Jump Around, in which he high-lariously teleports into girls’ changing rooms. By accident. A lot.
