Double Fine's Trenched getting global name change, free DLC
Hybrid mech game to become Iron Brigade for everyone after European release
Double Fine's XBLA title Trenched is getting a worldwide name change and some fresh free content this month. Studio men Brad Muir and Greg Rice recently confirmed on Whiskey Media's Big Live Live Show Live that North American owners of the third person shooter and tower defense hybrid will soon see a title update that will change the game's name to Iron Brigade, as well as add some extra in-game goodies to boot.
The name swap is a result of Double Fine's trademark issues in Europe, where the existence of a board game called Trenched has forced the studio to think of a new title prior to its overseas launch later this month. Although the edit was only required in Europe, Double Fine opted to adopt the Iron Brigade moniker in all markets so as to ensure the game's online multiplayer modes matched up throughout the globe.
According to the interview, the name update will arrive with new weapons, costumes, gestures and a survival mode set in the game's African Hospital stage. Brad Muir also confirmed the existence of future DLC, but did not offer specifics.
The game formerly known as Trenched has been stomping around on XLBA in North America since June, but its European release is schedule for September 22nd. Read our review to see why you should dig this game no matter what they decide to call it.
