Double Fine's next game is 'Stacking,' an XBLA/PSN puzzle adventure
Russian nesting dolls finally get their own game
Double Fine, Tim Schafer's creator of wonders, has announced that its next game will be a downloadable title called Stacking, which wewere relieved to discover doesn't involve falling blocks or being bored. It does involve looking awesome, though -the game casts you as Charlie Blackmore, the world's smallest Russian stacking doll, in a '30s-erapuzzle-adventure. It's not your average game pitch.
Blackmore solves puzzles by jumping into other stacking dolls and assuming their identities (and powers), and each puzzle has multiple solutions, according tothe exclusive IGN reveal:
"Typically in adventure-puzzle games there's one wacky way to solve an issue, but Stacking grants you the freedom to resolve the same situation in different ways. If you need to get Charlie past a guard, perhaps you'll "stack" on a pretty lady doll and distract him or maybe you'll try and sneak past him. Either way, when you decipher a new solution you'll be rewarded so you're encouraged to try out several problem-solving methods."
Stacking is Double Fine's second originaldownloadable game, after the recently-releasedCostume Quest. It's scheduled for release in spring 2011. Check out the debut trailer below, as well asour screenshot viewerfor more mash-up matryoshkas.
