Every Doom box will hide an enticing homage to the original game's iconic cover art. Bethesda and Id revealed the new reverse sleeve cover for Doom on Monday, sagely chosen by fans via a Twitter poll.
The other cover option was much more subdued: a shadowy demon skull emerging from a black field, with only its eyes and the title accented in red. I appreciate the minimalist approach, but I think Twitter made the right choice by picking the frantic, fiery battle scene. It's especially appropriate given how the latest Doom is trying to take the series back to the fast-moving action of the first two games.
Doom's standard box art, shown below, doesn't have nearly as much going for it. On the plus side, keeping the superior design on the inside means it doesn't need to be obfuscated with ratings signs and other standard-issue clutter. You know what to do when Doom comes out on May 13.
