Disney has splashed out on the rights to another classic movie franchise, with the studio finally reaching an agreement over the Indiana Jones series.
Paramount has clung on to the rights to the whip-cracking adventure saga ever since it financed Raiders Of The Lost Ark back in 1981, releasing a further three sequels in the process.
The new deal affords Disney with the distribution and marketing rights to future films, in addition to retaining its current ownership rights, as acquired when the studio purchased LucasFilm.
There have long been rumours of a fifth Indy film being in the pipeline, and this move would appear to sweep away any stumbling blocks should Disney want to push forward in that direction.
A fifth film has yet to be confirmed, of course, but don’t be surprised to hear another outing for Doctor Jones announced sometime in the new year…
