Shooting for the same cross-generational vibe that made Little Miss Sunshine a break-out hit, this dramedy sees a mildly brain-damaged Matthew Broderick hit the road with dotty uncle Alan Alda on a quest to offload a rare baseball card.
There are plenty of oddballs bouncing around this Chicago-based tale but once the action reaches a convention for memorabilia enthusiasts, things slow to a crawl as rival hucksters Dylan Baker and Bobby Cannavale fight to become the card’s new owner.
With few laughs, too much sports trivia and an overly cutesy depiction of senile dementia, this is a clear-cut case of diminishing returns.
