Did we really put up with GTA when it sucked like this?
Eight Grand Theft Auto gameplay flaws we chose not to notice
MISSION FAILURE
Most GTA gamers must have experienced the agony of dying on the way back from a mission. You've met the goals, completed the objectives, but before the mission itself is successful you've got to get across town - whereupon you accidentally drive off a cliff. Or into a river. Or get arrested. Or so on and on.
All of which means a brain-numbing retracing of your steps. Buying all the ammo and guns you need, grabbing the armour you require. Again. Then accepting the mission. Again. And then perhaps even having to drive half the map while a plot-centric conversation spools out. Again.
San Andreas introduced trip-skip to avoid such long tedious drives, and Vice City brought in taxis to get you straight back into the mission. But how many tasks didn't require preparing your arsenal, or ensuring you had a fast car? Remember the infuriating preparation-heavylow-rider race in 'Andreas? In GTA IV, we finally have a restart mission option. So that's the last joypad we throw through a window, then.
