What Diablo 4 Faded Plaques do and how to use them
The statues with faded plaques in Diablo 4 provide secret buffs if you know how to use them
Diablo 4 Faded Plaques can be found on statues throughout Sanctuary and if you can decipher their cryptic messages, they'll provide temporary buffs. These statues and their plaques can be quite easy to miss and wander past, and even if you do spot them, the lack of clear instructions for what you're supposed to do with them, means they seem more like interactive Diablo 4 set dressing. However, it turns out that Faded Plaques are telling you to use a one of your Diablo 4 emotes to solve its riddle, just like some other early side quests. If you want to know how to get secret buffs from these statues, then this what to do with Faded Plaques in Diablo 4.
How to activate Faded Plaques in Diablo 4 to get buffs
If you've discovered a statue with a faded plaque in Diablo 4, you can interact with it to read the inscription. Only a few words will still be legible, and it's the part that's displayed all in capital letters which you need to pay attention to. This word, or words, provides a clue to a specific Diablo 4 emote, which you then need to use to activate the plaque's secret buff. If you're not sure which emote to use, here's a helpful list of solutions to the faded plaque riddles:
Faded Plaque inscription | Emote required | Buff received |
---|---|---|
ATONE | Sorry | Become Unstoppable |
BID FAREWELL | Bye | Increased movement speed |
EMBOLDEN | Cheers | Receive a spirit companion |
GIVE AID | Help | Gain a barrier |
GRATITUDE | Thanks | Additional gold from kills |
GREET | Hello | Become invisible |
PROVOKE | Taunt | Receive health potions |
Stand in the glowing circle in front of the Diablo 4 Faded Plaque, then perform your emote – if you've chosen the correct one, the statue will briefly flash and a message will appear above it, confirming the temporary buff that you've received. This could be receiving additional gold for the next series of kills or forming a barrier that will absorb a certain amount of damage you take, as examples, and a small icon should appear above your level progress bar in the bottom left corner of the screen to confirm the buff is in effect. These won't provide you with a game-changing benefit overall, but at least you'll know what to do with faded plaques in Diablo 4 and can secure a quick bonus whenever you come across them on your travels.
Apply the same emoting logic to riddles found in side quests and you can quickly complete some of those too - the Diablo 4 Reject the Mother, Keeping the Old Traditions, and Secret of the Spring quests both have similar cryptic objectives.
