Destiny: Xur weapons, gear, and location, October 16-18. Hereafter and The Stag
Xur, Destiny's weekend purveyor of gleaming Exotics, fan of 1920s party-wear, and expert on fine spirits, has returned to the Tower. His mission? Sell you exciting stuff that does weird things when you wear or fire it. This week he’s over by the Crucible Quartermaster, just down the Tower’s central corridor on the way to the Vanguard chamber.
But what’s he selling? Well…
- No Backup Plans (Exotic Titan gauntlets) - 13 Strange Coins
- The Stag (Exotic Warlock helmet) - 13 Strange Coins
- Don’t Touch Me (Exotic Hunter gauntlets) - 13 Strange Coins
- Hereafter (Exotic sniper rifle) - 23 Strange Coins
- Legacy heavy weapon engram - 31 Strange Coins
- Three of Coins - 7 Strange Coins
- Glass Needle – 3 Strange Coins
Yep, he actually has a gun in his selection today. And it’s a rather interesting one at that, particularly well-suited to a PvE support role in hectic situations. The Hereafter’s two stand-out perks grant increased stability under fire, longer zoom, and enemy visibility while crouched, and give a chance for precision kills to also deliver a flashbang to nearby enemies. Great for long-range crowd control, if you can find a relatively safe camping spot.
As for armour, The Stag is a weird, but potentially decent bet, given that its perks are a random selection from several pools of possibility. You’ll have to see what you get when you arrive at Xur’s shop, but the general gist is that The Stag will boost your Super energy generation on PvE kills, and grant buffs when collecting orbs. Its one definite, locked-in perk will, once per life, boost your Super energy if you’re the last Guardian standing, and also give you a chance to respawn with an overshield. Overall, a pretty strong option for PvE buffs and defense, and a helmet that could really turn the tide for your whole team in a tough situation. Your mileage will vary slightly depending on which specific set of perks you get, but the piece can be re-rolled if you want to.
Don’t Touch Me is a quirky gauntlet set, albeit one with rather specific use, in that its chief perk – aside from increased Super accrual in PvE – is automatic invisibility when taking a melee hit from a minion of the Darkness. Basically, it’s a Hive defense mechanism, and will get you through some tough scrapes when the mobs are getting hectic, but it doesn’t really do much beyond that. It will however, be very handy if you’re running the Crota’s End raid. In fact it could make that first section much less painful. The No Backup Plans gauntlets, although looking mighty cool with their glowing, holographic plates, only add five seconds to your Titan’s Force Barrier duration. Nice, but not essential. There are better Exotics around.
As ever, Xur will only be around for a couple of days, from now until 10am UK / 2am Pacific on Sunday, October 18. After that, he's gone for another week...
