Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries – Where to find them in the Shattered Realm
Finding the mysteries of the Shattered Realm will get you extra loot
Keep an eye out for Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries as you complete runs of the new Shattered Realm activity in Season of the Lost. These mysteries are actually some very-well hidden chests that will require you to obtain certain abilities in order to reach them. You’ll be using your Wayfinder’s Compass to pass through barriers, reveal hidden platforms, and protect yourself from slowing Fields of Strife in the Shattered Realm. As you complete seasonal challenges and the Wayfinder’s Voyage quests in Destiny 2 Season of the Lost, you’ll be ranking up your compass and earning Parallax Trajectory to unlock and upgrade these abilities.
Each mystery you find and open has a chance to give you a piece of Season of the Lost gear, some Parallax Trajectory, and other materials like Glimmer and Destination Materials. Each one has its own Triumph attached to it, and a couple of seasonal challenges also require you to find Enigmatic Mysteries, as well as Ascendant and Trivial Mysteries. With the new Destiny 2 Agers Scepter Exotic, you can break certain rock walls to unlock Illusory Barriers concealing more chests and Ascendant Anchors. It’s well worth exploring the Shattered Realm to see what secrets – and loot – you can unlock. These are all the Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries locations across the Shattered Realm variations.

How to find Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries
How to find Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries
There are three different variations of the Shattered Realm. Each one is based on an existing location in Destiny 2 and has its own set of three hidden Enigmatic Mysteries. The Shattered Realm variation rotates weekly, so you’ll need to make sure you check in regularly to avoid missing out.
Unlocking the Enigmatic Mysteries is a lot more complicated than it sounds, however. Throughout Season of the Lost, you’ll be upgrading your Wayfinder’s Compass to unlock the three abilities – Barrier Breach, True Sight, and Safe Passage – that are required to gain access to Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries. By now you should have several upgrades that will make finding most of these Enigmatic Mysteries much easier, but more will become available to you over the coming weeks as you upgrade the Wayfinder’s Compass at the HELM.
Once you’re in the Shattered Realm, you’ll notice lots of holographic devices that hold a Wayfinder’s Compass and have different creature symbols on them. Each one temporarily grants you one of the three abilities that you’ll need to find each mystery. You can also see the name of your current location under your motion tracker, so use this to help you get to the general area of each Enigmatic Mystery.
Unfortunately, these devices are inactive at the start of any run of the Shattered Realm as shown by their dark purple color. To activate all of them, you’ll need to follow the objectives to align both beacons. After each alignment, a message saying “Reactivated Ley Lines reignite old technology…” will appear in the text feed. This means the compass devices surrounding that beacon have been activated and will now glow brightly, allowing you to use them to unlock some mystery chests. The Shattered Realms aren’t linear either, so you can freely explore to find the Enigmatic Mysteries once you’ve aligned both beacons – just don’t align the final beacon to start the boss fight!
Forest of Echoes
Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries in Forest of Echoes
The Forest of Echoes Shattered Realm is the one that looks like the EDZ, with the church and courtyard area from Trostland and some twisted trees like those found in the Dark Forest.
1. Courtyard Enigmatic Mystery in the church
There are two Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries in the Courtyard area of the Forest of Echoes. This one can only is accessed inside the church where the first beacon is located. Head inside the front of the church and activate the Barrier Breach and True Sight compass devices on your left and right. Now, head straight towards the beacon and you’ll notice some small, floating platforms appearing that lead up to a room above the beacon. Jump up into this room and refresh your True Sight with the compass device.
More floating platforms will be visible near the compass device. Jump on these and follow them around as they spiral up towards a floating room from the church. You’ll find a chest inside which is the first Enigmatic Mystery.
2.Courtyard Enigmatic Mystery in front of the church
To find the next Enigmatic Mystery, you need to get to the statue that is opposite the church entrance that also has a Safe Passage compass device next to it – it will say “Suppress Field of Strife”. From this statue, head slightly left towards the cliff edge and activate the True Sight device. Now, run back to the Safe Passage device by the statue. You’ll notice a bunch of floating platforms appear, but you need to activate the Safe Passage device to be able to jump high enough to reach the first platform.
Activate Safe Passage and then jump up onto the first platform and quickly traverse the rest of them. They spiral up and to the right, eventually ending at a large circular platform. The chest is on this platform, so open it to solve both Enigmatic Mysteries in the Courtyard.
3. Sunken Cave Enigmatic Mystery
To reach the final Enigmatic Mystery in the Forest of Echoes, you need to get to the Sunken Cave area. The Sunken Cave is a floating island area that can be reached from almost any other location. You can get to it from the Dark Forest, the Harrowed Cliffs, and the Ruins through a combination of Barrier Breach and True Sight pathways. Look out for the location name under your motion tracker to see if you’re in the right area. You want to be on top of the floating island that is entirely enclosed by a Field of Strife with a tall rock spire in the middle. Next to the spire will be a hole in the ground blocked off by a Barrier Breach barrier. There will also be Safe Passage and True Sight devices close to the spire.
Exactly like the previous Enigmatic Mysteries, this one is on top of a platform that is accessed by jumping up a spiral of floating platforms. To get to the chest, you need to activate True Sight and then suppress the Field of Strife. You must then jump all the way up the platforms to reach the chest.
Debris of Dreams
Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries in Debris of Dreams
The Debris of Dreams Shattered Realm is the one that looks a lot like the Tangled Shore with floating, craggy islands and large Eliksni facilities.
1. Ruined Outpost Enigmatic Mystery
This Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mystery can be found in the first island outside of the starting approach area. that features Scorn enemies in the Debris of Dreams. You’ll know you’re in the right place when the location under your motion tracker reads "The Ruined Outpost". The Enigmatic Mystery Chest is in a cave that’s inside the island. To get to it, you can jump through a slow-moving turbine on the island’s surface to land in the middle of the cave. Be aware that this cave has a few Scorn enemies inside and is completely covered by a Field of Strife which slows your movement and limits your jumping.
Once you’ve cleared out the cave, you need to look for the compass device that’s on top of a ledge. If your Mobility armor stat is high enough, you should be able to jump and mantle onto the ledge. Otherwise, you’ll need to use a small section of rock on the right of the ledge to hop up onto it.
You can then use the compass device to activate True Sight which will reveal a series of platforms that spiral up towards the turbine in the ceiling. At the top is a round platform with the chest on it. Jump across the platforms and open the chest to solve the Ruined Outpost Enigmatic Mystery.
2. Floating Islands near the Shattered Enclave Enigmatic Mystery
To get this Enigmatic Mystery, you need to head to the Shattered Enclave, which is the large island that holds the first beacon that you must align in Debris of Dreams. As you jump onto the enclave island from the Ruined Outpost island, head up the main path and you’ll be able to see a compass device at the top of the path. Activate the device to get True Sight and jump across the newly revealed path of floating platforms that leads to another floating island off to the right.
Once you’re on this new island, called the Vista, look for the Safe Passage compass device. It will be very close to another compass device that is on top of a rock. Activate the Safe Passage device to suppress the Field of Strife, then jump up to the device on top of the rock. Activate this device to get True Sight, then climb up the path of floating platforms until you reach a large disc-shaped platform. This platform will have the Enigmatic Mystery chest on it.
3. Derelict Shipyard Enigmatic Mystery
For this Enigmatic Mystery, you need to reach the final boss arena area like you normally would. Go through the teleporter that leads to the arena, but do not align the third and final beacon to start the fight. Instead, run past the beacon towards the metal balcony platform on the left of the arena that overlooks the starting building and Ruined Outpost island.
You need to jump off the right corner of this balcony and land on a ledge just below where you’ll find a True Sight compass device. Activate it to reveal a broken path going off the ledge that leads to a chest. Open it to solve the Derelict Shipyard Enigmatic Mystery.
Ruins of Wrath
Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mysteries in Ruins of Wrath
The Ruins of Wrath Shattered Realm features a lot of Hive and Hive architecture, including a massive Hive Dreadship.
1. Outer Islands Enigmatic Mystery
This Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mystery is found quite close to the beginning of the Ruins of Wrath where the first beacon is – the area is called “The Staging Ground” according to your motion tracker. Looking left from the beacon should lead you to a Wayfinder’s Compass device that grants True Sight. You should also be able to see a distant island with another compass device on it. Use True Sight to hop across the chain of floating platforms to reach the other island. You’re in the right place if the location name now reads “The Outer Islands”.
Now you need to follow the natural path on the island which slopes down and to the left. You’ll eventually find a Barrier Breach compass device at the bottom of the slope. Get Barrier Breach and then keep following the path to find a cave on your left. Head inside before Barrier Breach times out and then open the chest inside.
2. Debris Field Enigmatic Mystery
Starting from the central debris field, you need to get to the rocky island on the right that’s between the Hive Dreadship and the tall Hive tower. This island will be marked as “The Debris Field” under your motion tracker. It’s best to explore this area first so you know what to expect before attempting to get the mystery.
Bear right and drop onto the lower ledge which will have a Barrier Breach compass device on it and an entrance to a cave that slopes upwards. Further up the cave will be a smaller cave on the right that requires Barrier Breach to access and houses a Trivial Mystery chest. At the top of the main cave, you’ll see a True Sight compass device and a barrier blocking a doorway.
To get this Enigmatic Mystery chest, you must get Barrier Breach from the first compass device on the lower ledge, run to the Trivial Mystery barrier cave, refresh your Barrier Breach timer, run to the True Sight device and activate it, and finally get through the barrier. Once through, you just need to follow the path of floating platforms up to the top of this island and the chest will be waiting for you.
3. Warbringer’s Tower Enigmatic Mystery in the Undercroft
The final Destiny 2 Enigmatic Mystery is in an area of the Ruins of Wrath that is only accessible once you’ve begun looking for an Ascendant Mystery in the same area. After you’ve aligned the first beacon, you’ll see a message saying “A dormant plate comes to life” in the text feed on the left of your screen. From the beacon, you need to head to the right and towards the tall Hive tower known as the Warbringer’s Tower. There’s a glowing Hive plate near the tower that you’ll need to stand on for a moment to activate it. Once it has been activated, the tower doors will unlock, and you’ll be able to head inside.
To reach the Enigmatic Mystery, you must go through the hole in the floor to reach the tower’s undercroft. After jumping down the first hole, you’ll have to invoke Barrier Breach, pass through a barrier, and jump down another hole which is full of spinning, spiky cylinders and swinging lanterns. Do your best to avoid these and the spikes on the floor.
Now that you’re actually in the Undercroft, you’ll have to face off against Xivu Arath’s son, Scoroboth. To take down his shield, you need to get Barrier Breach from the compass device that’s in a little nook between a pillar and a doorway on the right.
Once you’ve got it, head through that doorway and walk through the corridor full of Hive lanterns. Eventually, you’ll emerge into another room which holds a relic orb needed to take down Scoroboth’s shield. You’ll easily spot the Enigmatic Mystery chest as soon as you get into this room.
That’s all nine Enigmatic Mysteries available in the Shattered Realm activity. Make sure you check off all the Triumphs that they unlock to get up your score. You can also reopen them each week to potentially get more Season of the Lost gear rolls, Parallax Trajectory, and Destination Materials. Other than that, we’re not sure if getting all of them will have some other effect, but keep an eye here as we’ll update this guide if anything else happens with these mysteries in Destiny 2 Season of the Lost.
