Screenwriter Derek Haas provides an update on Wanted 2
Sequel still in the pipeline
Yesterday we brought you news that Mark Millar had as many as three of his comic-book properties about to go into development, and today there’s news of another Millar-related project, with screenwriter Derek Haas giving an update on Wanted 2 .
Haas had previously co-written the original and had been working on the sequel, only for the project to stall. Happily for him, he’s now been brought back into the fold and is working on a script with writing partner Michael Brandt.
“We got that call that you always love as a screenwriter,” says Haas. “'Can you guys please come back?' We loved the world. That experience was great. We said, 'Well here's what we want to do with the sequel.' And they said, 'Okay.'"
Haas would go on to confirm that Angelina Jolie will not be returning, but that there will be a new female protagonist to pick up the slack.
“The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She's got a shitty life. He's sort of in the Fox role [ Jolie’s part in the first film ]. This new girl is brought into the world."
Expect an announcement concerning a release date in due course.
