Until recently, Luke Rutherford (Echo Beach’s Christian Cooke) was just a normal 18-year-old, more concerned about his A-levels than monsters. Then his godfather Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister, aka Gene Hunt in Life On Mars) comes into his life and tells him that he’s the last in the Van Helsing family line, and that it’s his destiny to spend his life smiting the undead – it's unlikely that Luke's going to be quite so worried about A-levels in future...
Helping Luke in his fight against the demons (including a harpy, hyenas-in-hoodies and the vampiric form of teddy boy blood sucker Gladiolus Thrip) are his best mate Ruby (Holliday Granger) and Mina Harker (Zoe Tapper), a concert pianist who survived a brush with Count Dracula in Bram Stoker’s original novel. Sounds like a pretty good way to spend a Saturday night.
