Deadpool producer says rough cut is 'fantastic'

While we're still five months away from the release of Deadpool, one of the film's producers Simon Kinberg recently watched a rough cut and is singing its praises. "It’s fantastic," he told Collider. "It’s a really good movie. It delivers on the promise of the trailer… We really committed and leaned into it being R-rated. It’s just darker and edgier and weirder in the best way—like Deadpool should be—than any other movie in the genre.”

Starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular merc with a mouth, Deadpool was ushered into development after fans lapped up leaked footage of Tim Miller's proposed spinoff. The film is thankfully going to ignore what happened to the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine for a fully-fledged reboot.

Moreover, this could turn out to be the start of a whole new franchise as Kinberg goes on to discuss the idea of a follow-up. “We certainly are talking about the sequel—we were talking about the sequel while we were making the movie just because when you make a film like this that’s from a serialized source material, you hope that it’s the first of many… But yeah [Fox is] feeling good about it, we’re all feeling really proud of it, so hopefully before it comes out we will be well into the process of figuring out a sequel.”

As is the case with early chatter there's no word on where that movie may take Deadpool. One thing that's in consideration is the inclusion of fan-favorite character Cable. While it's still too early to confirm his appearance, the producer hasn't ruled it out, saying that he has wanted to bring him to the screen for a long time.

Deadpool opens on February 12, 2016.
