Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld says film is 'the best version I've experienced'

It can be hard when you're an artist to see something you've created being given to someone else, but Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld isn't holding a grudge against the upcoming movie. In fact, he told fans lucky enough to see advance screenings that he thinks it's "fantastic," and features a version of the merc with a mouth that impresses even him.

"Here’s the deal: 25 years' worth of Deadpool. This movie comes out 25 years to the day we published him at Marvel and you couldn’t get a better gift if you’re a Deadpool fan. I have seen 25 years of stories come and go," he said. "And Rhett [Reese] and Paul [Wernick] will tell you, back in 2009, I freaked out when I read the screenplay because Deadpool has never ever been better than he was in that screenplay, and when I saw this movie six weeks ago I was like, 'How much of this script will carry?' and what you just saw is the best version of Deadpool I have ever experienced in my life."

It's not too surprising that Deadpool's dad would say nice things about a movie starring his creation, but I hope Liefeld realizes he just said that director Tim Miller, star Ryan Reynolds, and screenplay writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick portrayed the character better than he did. Maybe he figured out belts upon belts of pouches wasn't the way to go? (Despite their usefulness.)

Directed by Tim Miller and starring Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller and Gina Carano, Deadpool will open in UK cinemas on February 10, 2016 before arriving in US theatres on February 12, 2016.
