Deadpool 2 stumbled a bit when it lost director Tim Miller late 2016, but fret not true believers. With new director David Leitch behind the wheel, script writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick say things are back on track, and they expect to roll into full production later this year.
"We’re pushing forward very hard," Reese recently told Deadline. "I think by every account we will shoot it this year, and we’re on our multiple draft now. It’s taken different twists and turns, but it’s really coalescing, and we’re very, very excited." Reese also said that Deadpool 2 will remain focused on the Merc With A Mouth, calling it a "solo movie" - albeit one that will feature more characters than the first film.
Deadpool was famous for its development troubles - heck, the movie only exists because of fan reaction to leaked test footage that was made years earlier. And while things looked shaky for Deadpool 2 for a minute there, it's good to hear that Rheese and Wernick (who also serve as executive producers on the sequel) have a timetable for us. I don't think I could handle years of waiting again.
