David Jaffe leaving Eat Sleep Play after Twisted Metal

David Jaffe has announced he'll be leaving his company, the Utah-based Eat Sleep Play, once development and patching on Twisted Metal is complete. This gives the designer around six to twelve weeks left with the company, which he says he's leaving in order to launch a new studio closer to home in San Diego: “I really miss internal game development.”

While rumors abound that the God of War creator may be planning to “go casual,” that's not the plan, Jaffe announced via Twitter: “The rumors of me making casual games post-Twisted Metal – as many of you define them – are highly exaggerated. I have zero plans to make games like Farmville and Angry Birds.”

While he grants he's already brainstorming “big, huge next gen game ideas I’d love for us to make, as well as cool stuff in the browser space,” Jaffe says the latter will be “gamer-centric” projects with the emphasis on action. Meanwhile, Twisted Metal is “in the hands of the critics,” says Jaffe, with a retail release next week. And look, here it is, right in our hands, as promised!
