David Cronenberg writing his first novel
But he’s keeping the plot under wraps for now...
David Cronenberg, who last brought us Russian mobster drama Eastern Promises, has decided that the time is right to pen his first novel.
Publishing company Penguin has nabbed the rights to the book, which Cronenberg is keeping secret for now. "I've literally been waiting 50 years to do this," Cronenberg blabbed in a statement. "I'm excited." Apparently he has an idea for the plot and it will – surprise! – all take place in Toronto.
"His films demonstrate a deep understanding of the human condition that could translate into fiction brilliantly, so I'm delighted that he has decided to take on this challenge," said Penguin executive editor Nicole Winstanley.
Look for it to arrive in stores in 2010, because he’s clearly no Gordon Brown when it comes to writing speed. And expect weirdness…
