Dark Souls DLC shield design contest offers immortality, free stuff

Namco Bandai has launched a Dark Souls contest challenging players to design shieldsfor inclusion inpost-launch DLC for the chance to win exclusive Dark Souls swag and one of three starring roles in the game's credits. We say 'starring', but we expect the winning names willbe slotted insomewhere between “Coffee Bitches” and “Personal Toenail Clippers”. But hey, at least it's a foot in the door.

To enter, fans must 'like' theDark Souls Facebook page, after which they can download a shield design template. Entries are limited to three apiece, and the due date for submissions is Wednesday July 13th. Following the deadline, Namco Bandai will thengive fans until July 20thto select their top ten favoritesfor developer From Software's consideration, which will thenhand pickthree winnersto announce onJuly 28th.

All top ten finalistswill receive a copy of Dark Souls signed by the game's director Hidetaka Miyazaki. The top three winners, however, will be gifted with a signed limited edition Dark Souls copy, see their shields released as future DLC, andhavetheir names included in the game's credits. Here's hoping said credits are accessible from the start, because fromwhat we've seen, actually making it through to the end of Dark Souls is going to be a herculean challenge in and of itself.
