Dark Sector
Hands-on with a polished build of Digital Extremes' techno-thriller
The first three levels of the demo served as something of a trial by fire, slowly introducing more moves to Tenno's repertoire and even teasing us with a highly destructive mini-boss fight against a proper boss (one of four in the game) that would make a full appearance later in the game. Having walls torn out or blown through and enemies distracted by a massive, lumbering monkey-like creature also showed some interesting three-way fights with the game's AI.
In truth, the early levels of the game are a mere precursor to the really cool parts, and though we wish we could say a little more, Digital Extremes swore us to secrecy on pain of death. It's a tease, yes, but we can at least say that the sci-fi elements that were first introduced when the game was originally premiered as something of a space epic are still firmly in place. They're just... different. Exactly how different is something you'll have to wait for, but hopefully we'll be able to cough up more details before the game hits in early February of next year.
