Darabont's doubts on Indy 4
Spielberg's scribbler doesn't hold out much hope for Indy after Lucas vetoes latest script
A quick survey for you... Rate the following in order of 'most anticipated' - Star Wars: The TV Show, Star Wars: The Animated Series or Indiana Jones 4.
We're going to take a wild guess that the majority of you have plumped for the Indy option, right? It's a shame producer George Lucas doesn't seem to agree. Skywalker Ranch is currently buzzing about the Lucasfilm TV projects they are developing and it seems that George might just be making good on his threat to walk away from movies.
“I can’t get into George’s head,” Indy 4 key-tapper Frank Darabont told chud.com after Lucas knocked back his latest draft. “I worked very closely with Steven Spielberg. He was very, very happy with the script and said it was the best draft of anything since Raiders Of The Lost Ark.”
Unfortunately for The Shawshank Redemption scribbler, the man holding the purse strings didn't agree. “George Lucas read it and said, ‘Yeah, I don’t think so, I don’t like it.’ Then he resets it to zero when Spielberg is ready to shoot it that coming year.”
So, it seems the chances of us seeing a new Indy movie in cinemas any time soon are slipping away and Frank feels your pain. As a man on the inside, does he think we'll ever see the world's favourite whip-cracker on the big screen again?
“I don't think so. It's terribly frustrating - I worked for over a year on that. It's a real kick to the nuts.”
We couldn't have said it better ourselves...
