Danny Elfman to score Terminator Salvation
Brad Fiedel fail for T4. Batman composer gets the gig.
Bad news for die-hard Terminator fans: Brad Fiedel will not be returning to the franchise. Instead, Danny Elfman is taking up musical duties for Terminator Salvation.
Elfman confirmed to MTV that he has started scoring the picture. Naturally, they asked him whether the iconic Terminator theme would be used. He said:
"I think if it comes up and it seems appropriate, we will [use it]. And if it doesn’t, we [won't]. I never really know what to expect when I begin other than just kind of get into it and have fun. Especially a movie like T4 – just have fun. So that’s what I intend to do."
Especially a movie like T4 – just have fun? That sends shivers down our spine. Terminator Salvation should be action-packed, energetic and dazzling, but it should also be solemn, melancholy and somewhat bleak. We'd hardly call a post-apocalyptic setting where humanity is on the brink of extinction 'fun'.
So a word from the wise, Mr. Elfman. Read our 16 Terminator Rules McG Must Follow . Take particular note of rule number fifteen - “The original Terminator music must be used.”
MTV also confirmed that the soundtrack will include a tune by the film's star, hip-hop artist Common. Seriously.
In light of this, should we be praying for skynet to break out the big guns before T4 is released? Let us know in the comments.
