Getting your hands on genuinely good DnD gifts (whether it's for players or your group's Dungeon Master) can be a quest in and of itself. There's no shortage of choice, so where in the Nine Hells should you start?

Because the 12DOVE team and I are big fans of Dungeons & Dragons books, we embarked on an adventure to find the best DnD gifts. You can find our top recommendations below, and there should be something to suit all budgets here – you don't need to spend a fortune on your journey for quality presents. They'll delight online and in-person players alike, too.

Wondering how we settled on these options? The team and I have spent a long time suggesting gifts for gamers and even longer playing DnD, so we won't ever recommend something we wouldn't want ourselves. If we've not been hands-on with a product, we've also cross-referenced user-reviews to make sure you're not winding up with tat.

What to buy for someone who likes DnD?

If you're wondering what you should get someone who loves Dungeons & Dragons, I'd recommend starting with dice. Yes, I know what you're thinking. Surely they already have those? Well, as a player and Dungeon Master that runs games on the regular, I can safely say that there's always room for more... Particularly if you're buying unique designs from creators on Etsy. Some of my most treasured dice have tiny ducks embedded in them for example.

Character or session journals are also a solid choice. Much like dice, these will come in useful at some stage - be it the current campaign or one in the future. The recipient is unlikely to have the exact design you've chosen, either.

Failing all this, grab some novelty chocolates or sweets in the shape of dice. These are fairly easy to find online and make for a simple yet thoughtful present.

Should you buy DnD rulebooks as a gift?

I'd always recommend proceeding with caution when buying DnD rulebooks as a gift. Yes, there's a chance that the recipient might already have the book you're considering. But it can also be a minefield if you don't know the difference between various editions or versions (which is entirely fair, it can be a headache to detangle even if you're an experienced fan). There are new 2024 core rulebooks out this year, for instance, making the old ones redundant.

As such, I'd only buy DnD rulebooks if the person you're shopping for has asked for it specifically - or you know exactly what they need.

Is DnD an expensive hobby?

The answer to whether DnD is expensive or not depends on how deep down the rabbit hole you're willing to go. Many players and Dungeon Masters make do with dice, paper, and their imaginations. Others go all in with expensive 3D miniatures and terrain, not to mention lighting and sound effects. Neither is the 'right' way to play; you can spend as much or as little as you want on DnD and still have a wonderful time.

With that in mind, DnD gifts don't have to break the bank. There are plenty of cheap options available, be it mugs or custom models.
