Why you can trust 12DOVE
Rafael (Puerto Rican singing star Chayanne) leaves Cuba and goes to Texas to work for his long-lost father (a very tired-looking Kris Kristofferson), who runs a shabby dance studio and doesn't even know he has a son. There, he meets Ruby (Vanessa L Williams), a dancer and single mother, and teaches her to listen to the music of his heart. In between, everybody (including Joan Plowright as a spunky dancer) is preparing for the World Latin Dance Championship in Las Vegas.
The thin story is as shabby as the location, but Dance With Me just about survives on the charisma and sexual chemistry of its two gorgeous stars. What makes it worth a look is the wonderfully sensual dancing, beautifully choreographed, performed and expertly filmed by director Randa Haines, who declares herself a fan of ballroom dancing. But you can't help wishing there was more of that and fewer shots of a melancholy Kristofferson on the pier.
