The Dark Tower Movie?

Da Vinci Code director to make film and TV show of Stephen King fantasy series, says report

Da Vinci Code director Ron Howard is teaming up with producer and screenwriter Akiva ( A Beautiful Mind, Batman Forever, Fringe ) Goldsman and producer Brian ( Robin Hood , 24 ) Grazer is an attempt to bring Stephen King’s epic Dark Tower fantasy series to the big and small screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter .

The rights had been held by JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot production company, as a possible TV series to be showrun by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse once Lost had finished. But Bad Robot has now surrendered the rights, and Howard, Grazer and Goldsman are poised to make a bid. The plan is to make a movie first, directed by Howard and written by Goldsman, then to spin it off into a TV series, says The Hollywood Reporter , though the article stresses no deals have yet been made. Universal would distribute the movie.

King’s seven-book fantasy series has been described by the author as Lord Of The Rings meets spaghetti Westerns, which also features cameos from characters from his other “real world” novels. Fans have been waiting for a screen version for years.
