Eastern Promises centres on a midwife who investigates the background of a Russian girl who dies during childbirth on Christmas Eve. The woman puts herself in danger when she discovers the Russian was a prostitute for a sex-trafficking gang.
Dirty Pretty Things scribbler Steve Knight handled typewriter duties, working together with the BBC. The movie will be produced by Pride & Prejudice bean-counters Kudos Films.
Focus Films will handle worldwide rights to the flick, with the exception of British telly, which will be held by the BBC.
Knight has already begun corresponding with Cronenberg on script polishing but Eastern Promises faces competition for DC’s attention – as we told you recently, the helmer is also prepping black comedy Maps To The Stars.
