Bryan Singer teases a possible Wolverine cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse

When I think of Wolverine, the person that immediately comes to mind is Hugh Jackman. The actor has played the character in no fewer than seven films, and he's set to unsheath the adamantium claws at least one more time for The Wolverine sequel due out next year. However, it looks like there's a chance we might not have to wait that long for Logan to return to our cinema screens.

There have been rumours that Wolverine may appear in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse ever since last year's Comic-Con, and even though the film is less than two months away from release the director isn't confirming either way. "As a central character, he didn’t fit into this particular story", the director told Empire. Given that Singer made sure to say "central character", I'm thinking it's a pretty safe bet that Jackman will at least make a cameo in the film.

When last we saw Wolverine, Mystique (posing as William Stryker) had just rescued him from drowning, and by the sounds of this scene description Stryker will be making life hard for the X-Men once again in Apocalypse: "The quartet have been kidnapped by army twonk William Stryker following a cataclysmic event at the X-Mansion, and wake up in a holding cell. On a balcony above them, Stryker taunts his prisoners, demanding to know the whereabouts of Magneto."

If memory serves, the Wolverine in that timeline hadn't yet had adamantium grafted on to his skeleton. If Jackman does make an appearance, here's hoping Logan has finally gone through the Weapon X process. I can't imagine having Wolverine be without his trademark metal if next year's sequel is Jackman's last outing as the character.

Directed by Bryan Singer and starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Munn, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Rose Byrne, and Nicholas Hoult, X-Men: Apocalypse will now be released in UK cinemas on May 18, 2016 before making its way to US theatres on May 27, 2016.
