Could Sam Mendes return for Bond 24?
Director reportedly in talks with Sony
Sam Mendes could be about to pull off a spectacular U-turn, with reports claiming that the Skyfall director has entered talks with Sony to return to direct Bond 24 .
Mendes had previously ruled himself out of such a return, citing his commitments to stage productions Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and King Lear as too time-consuming an endeavour.
However, Deadline now claims that Mendes has been in contact with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, with the director back in the frame to take the hotseat on Bond 24 .
It is thought that the producers have agreed to wait until Mendes has completed work on the aforementioned stage shows before getting production underway, with Bond 24 pencilled in for a 2016 release date.
The news comes hot on the heels of rumours that the likes of Nicolas Winding Refn and Ang Lee were being considered for the position. Sorry chaps… looks like Mendes just skipped to the head of the queue!
