Kevin Costner has reached for the long arm of his lawyer and is suing a production company over an abortive project he was planning. The 50-year-old actor yesterday launched a lawsuit against Ascendant Pictures, claiming that the company broke an oral agreement – you know, the type not typically worth the paper they’re printed on – to fill his pockets with $8 million to star in the romantic comedy Taming Ben Taylor.
The suit alleges that the thesp and the company reached the agreement in December 2004, but that Ascendant pulled the plug on the agreement in June 2005. The planned film would have starred Costner as a surly, destitute vineyard owner refusing to sell his land to a golf course. We may never get to see KC tending to grapes and threatening crazy trouser-wearing types. And for that, we should all shed a tear.
The case continues in the US Superior Court.
