Why you can trust 12DOVE
After donning a clown suit for his son’s birthday, Kent (Andy Powers) can’t get the damn thing off and then turns into a clown-demon that preys on children. Produced by Eli Roth, this monster/were-clown/possession flick has a neat premise and interesting subtexts (domestic abuse, paedophilia) but is neither as unsettling nor blackly humorous as it should be.
Perfunctorily lit and shot, it comes with a creaky backstory delivered by Peter Stormare as the suit’s previous owner, and is worth seeing only for the bit where a dog eats the clown’s nose and turns into a red-eyed savage.
