Clark Gregg talks Agent Coulsons return in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Back from the dead?
Clark Gregg has been discussing his role in ABC’s forthcoming TV series Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. , referring to the “mystery” of Coulson’s reappearance following his on-screen death in The Avengers .
"I don’t know how you could not change going through what he went through,” says Gregg says of Coulson's state of mind during the show. “I think if he hadn’t gone through some kind of change, it wouldn’t be any good. That said, I don’t know if he understands how much he’s changed.”
Does this mean Coulson has actually been resurrected from the dead? Or did Loki do something else to him that merely looked like a mortal wound? Gregg isn’t telling, although he does explain what attracted him to this new story arc.
“When Joss described to me the mystery," explains Gregg, "and the complexity and the unanswered questions about Phil Coulson standing there trying to deal with this, I found it so fascinating and so true to the world of the comics and mythology in general as I understand them that I was immediately in.
“Some level of deception must have been perpetrated on the Avengers,” explains Gregg, finally. “It must have been. I think.” That’s that cleared up then…
Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is expected to air in late 2013.
