Another day, another Angry Birds story. After having runaway success on the iPhone and finding two million eager Android gamers to get it for free, the most popular mobile game of the moment is now on Nokia's Ovi Store.
For developer Rovio, everything from this moment on is just gravy. It's already managed to set new records on the two most successful mobile platforms. The next step is Nokia's Symbian operating system, which has largely fallen out of use in the US but remains successful in other parts of the world.
Rovio released a beta version of Angry Birds for Ovi-enabled Symbian^3 phones earlier in the year and has now made the full game available. Like Android, the Ovi version is free.
"We see great potential in Ovi Store, and we're looking forward to steadily growing numbers of Angry Birds finding their way to Nokia device," said Rovio CEO Mikael Hed.
Angry Birds has become so successful that its publisher, Chillingo, was just bought out by EA for $20 million. Rovio, as the developer, does still retain all rights to Angry Birds. But with its publisher now part of one of the biggest video game companies in the world, there could be much bigger and better things in store for the future of the franchise.
