Christie's set to stun Trekkies

So rare is it that a TV show becomes part of the very fabric of society and retains such mass popularity that a single catchphrase or image would spark recognition from virtually any generation.

Star Trek pretty much stands alone in that category, whether it’s a young, sneering William Shatner cracking heads with the Klingons or a super-smooth Patrick Stewart rucking over a wormhole with the Romulans.

So Trekkies rejoice, your Mecca has arrived. From 3 August, Christie’s auction house in Kensington is giving you the chance to sniff a slice of Trek history with a free tour of some corkin’ memorabilia.

Set to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the show, Paramount are selling off the items in New York in October – so unless you’re seriously wedged, this will be your first and last chance to get a glimpse of items such as Captain Kirk’s suit, the Enterprise and Romulan Warbird models, Spock’s uniform and Captain Kirk’s very own chair.

You can get in for free at Christie’s South Kensington saleroom (85 Old Brompton Road, London, SW7 3LD) from 3 to 8 August. Doors are open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm except on Sunday 6 August when exhibition times will be 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

It goes without saying that totalfilm.com’s illustrious Online Ed will be attending in full Klingon battle dress, minus her batleth sword, which was confiscated at a The Little Chef in Taplow after a particularly lively convention in ’94.
