Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash whips a plug back and forth, introduces Chibi-miibo

Nintendo will publish Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash, a new Chibi-Robo adventure for the 3DS, sometime this October, company spokesman Bill Trinen revealed during today’s Nintendo Direct. Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash will move the miniature robot away from his household-cleaning origins and instead focus on 2D platforming, as Chibi-Robo uses his power cord to whip enemies and latch onto objects. You can see the game in action starting at 1:41 in the video below:

The original Chibi-Robo! is a beloved classic, even if its sales figures are less than impressive. In that game, Chibi-Robo helped a family on the rocks by cleaning up around the house and being generally adorable. Subsequent games have been less well-received, as the diminutive helper-bot has strayed further from his original mission.

The cutesy automaton will also be getting his own amiibo for use with Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash, though you’ll only be able to snag one new in box as part of a bundle with the game. You’ll definitely want to pick up this bundle if you’ve ever dreamed of a Chibi-Robo / DragonBall Z crossover (and really, who hasn’t?), as using the Chibi-Robo amiibo will turn the in-game Chibi-Robo into a more powerful version of himself, complete with a golden sheen.

Using the Chibi-Robo amiibo (Am-chibo? Chi-miibo? Ro-miibo?) will also allow players to level up and unlock rewards, but Trinen says that Nintendo will “touch on that later.” Hopefully more details are announced before all the Chibi-Robo amiibo are sold out.
