Game Boy Advance
On a completist scale, Nintendo's Game Boy Advance is a fairly recent addition to the 16-bit ranks. Nevertheless it brought with it a number of choice gems that weren’t just depressingly inevitable remakes of old SNES titles, earning it a place in our hearts. In fact, the GBA has the finest back catalog of all handhelds.
Get it working
1) It has been quiet on the GBA emu scene for a while now, partly because there wasn’t a lot of work left to be done. Yer man here is VisualBoyAdvance.
2) Select a resolution from Options > Video, a filter from Options > Filter and key/gamepad bindings from Options > Joypad > Configure.
3) If you’re suffering from patchy performance, try increasing the number under the Frameskip menu. If, on the other hand, games are running nauseatingly fast, Frameskip > Throttle should slow it.
4) VBALInk (vbalink.wz.cz) is a basic attempt at emulating the GBA's link cable and wireless features.

Essential games
Advance Wars
In a fallow period for the PC RTS, this stood proud. Turn- and grid-based but incredibly awesome with it - probably the GBA’s finest hour.
Wario Ware
Too many sequels have dulled this mini-game collection’s cleverness, but it’s refreshingly ridiculous and totally gamey.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
An inventive action-RPG that brings an awful lot of depth to the Mario-verse.
