Championship Manager 2008 - exclusive preview
Faster, deeper and now with added roughing up
As with the new PS2 FIFA game, players also have tendencies applied to them, so they behave more like their real-life counterparts. A good shooting stat for Scholes would be pointless if he didn't attempt long-range strikes from outside the penalty area, so he'll have a tendency to try such feats. If you don't feel your player's tendencies are ideal, you can just send them on the appropriate training course and tell him how he should be playing. He'll soon learn.
The interface is improved too. There are assignable shortcuts to any ten screens using the number keys, plus a quick list of up to 20 navigation targets available from a menu that can be called up on the left. Simply drag and drop to add links. Many of the words in info screens are hotlinks, so you can simply click on the name of a team you're scheduled to meet whilst in your calendar and go straight to their stats page, with further hotlinks available for individual players.
Players can be dragged around on a pitch graphic too, so formations can be changed easily. Every player can be given a task and every opposing player can be given special treatment through a right-click too. Want to wind up Rooney and get him sent off? Choose 'wind up'. Want to make Shevchenko wish he'd stayed on the bench? Choose 'rough up'. You can also give individual players some words of advice before the match and at half time, as well as address the whole team.
