Celebrate Towel Day as a tribute to Hitchhikers Douglas Adams

The National Space Centre in Leicester is celebrating Towel Day on 25 May by putting on a day of events in memory of Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy author Douglas Adams. Featuring special guests, displays, talks and workshops, the event will raise funds for Save the Rhino, an organisation for which Adams was a founding patron.

For those not in the know, Towel Day is celebrated annually on the same date, two weeks after the day of Adams’ death in 2001. The tribute day is recognised by carrying a towel around with you everywhere you go for the entire day. In Hitchhiker's Adams wrote at length about the importance of towels, saying a towel is “about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”

The chance to meet not one, but two, Marvins is on offer at the National Space Centre. The BBC Marvin now lives in the “futility cupboard” of Doctor Who Visual Effects designer Mike Tucker, who'll be bringing him to the event and will also be signing copies of his book, VFX: The Story of the BBC Visual Effects Department . Joining BBC Marvin will be his theatre counterpart, pictured above. Sandra Dickinson, who played Trillian in the BBC Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy , will also accompany the Marvins as a special guest.

If you buy your tickets in advance online, you can upgrade to a free annual pass, in addition to fast tracking queues on the day.
