CBS has revealed an extended first trailer for Supergirl online, starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman who has spent 24 years on Earth attempting to blend in with the crowd.
However, superpowers don’t tend to stay dormant for long, and Kara eventually decides she needs to live up to her potential as a fully fledged superhero. And sure enough, the opportunity to do just that presents itself sooner rather than later…

The tone of this one looks particularly bright and breezy (“capes are lame!”) with Benoist making for a particularly peppy heroine. Plus there are plenty of in-references to appease fans of the comics, spanning from the obvious (hello, Jimmy Olsen) to the obscure (future Toyman anyone?).
Co-starring Calista Flockhart, David Harewood and Chyler Leigh, Supergirl will premiere on CBS later this year, with an exact air date to be confirmed.
