Cate Blanchett has been talking about her latest movie Truth, and when Total Film magazine sat down with her and the rest of the cast recently, the actress explained why she felt it was an important story to tell: "I read in it one sitting and I was really gripped by it".
The film follows the true story of news producer Mary Mapes [Blanchett] and her news anchor Dan Rather [Robert Redford] who aired a story in the months before the US 2004 presidential election claiming that President George W. Bush received preferential treatment from the Texas Air National Guard in the ‘70s.
Their evidence was immediately called in to question which led to massive scrutiny for the news team professionally and personally. Something which wasn't as commonplace as it is now: "This was three years before the Twittersphere and Mary was in uncharted waters in terms of those personal attacks which come from those random bloggers”. Oh, for simpler times!
Directed by James Vanderbilt and starring Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford, Topher Grace, Dennis Quaid and Elisabeth Moss, Truth hits UK cinemas March 4, 2016.
