Carey Mulligan the front runner for Baz Luhrmann's Gatsby
Most likely to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio
Buzz has steadily been building on Baz Luhrmann's forthcoming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby .
There was talk a while back that Luhrmann was holding extremely starry 'workshops' as part of his casting process. Vulture are now reporting that Carey Mulligan is the favourite to take on the role of Daisy in the movie, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby.
Brit Mulligan has edged into the lead after facing extremely tough competition from Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, and a number of others, including Keira Knightley and Rebecca Hall, are said to have workshopped.
Vulture's report suggests that Johansson's lack of availability, after her decision to star in Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo , helped Mulligan nab the role.
Carey Mulligan's award-magnet of a turn in An Education last year has made her one of the most sought after actresses on the planet. She'll next be seen in bleak drama Never Let Me Go .
DiCaprio is reuniting with Romeo + Juliet director Luhrmann for Gatsby , and he'll also be starring opposite his old friend Tobey Maguire (who's playing Carraway).
