Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will get PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, too

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will release on PS3 and Xbox 360, but it'll be a bit worse for wear. Activision today confirmed that Black Ops 3, which was previously announced solely for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, will get a last-gen port from Spider-Man series developer Beenox and Mercenary Technology.

Activision took pains to establish that Black Ops 3 was "designed to harness the full potential of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC," and that the last-gen devs will be working backward, rather than the other way around.

Apparently Black Ops 3 will be scaled back in a number of ways to work on older hardware: most notably, you'll only be able to play through the campaign with one buddy, whereas the current-gen version supports up to four-player co-op. The multiplayer beta won't be available on last-gen systems either, and Activision says it will lay out any more feature discrepancies as Black Ops 3's November 6 release draws nearer.

The company also confirmed that it has no plans to to release Black Ops 3 on Wii U. That follows suit with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, as Call of Duty: Ghosts was the last game in the series to get a Wii U version back in 2013.
