Bungie knows where you've been dying in The Trials of Osiris (and who's cheating)

So the first official report is in from the first run of Destiny’s new Trials of Orisis PvP event. First conclusion? It was really brutal and a lot of people died. To be fair, we didn’t need a full stat break-down from Bungie to know that. We were there, man. But it is nice to know that our repeat insta-perforations weren’t an isolated case. With 118, 627, 301 kills over 3, 798, 561 games, in just one long weekend, the no-respawns, revives-only game mode was a quick and brutal killing field, and no mistake.

Second conclusion? People like killing each other in really specific ways. Bengie has released two heat-maps for The Burning Shrine, site of all of last week’s bloodshed. The first map, a traditional run-down of the most prolific Places of Many Deaths, shows very distinct Guardian smear patterns splattered around the tighter corners leading into slightly obscure firing angles. The direct cross-fire path is the middle is largely untouched. Seems everyone was trying to play it safe, but in playing it safe in the same places as the opposition, turned the map’s more tactically sound areas into a total bloodbath.

The second maps showed that, unsurprisingly in such a high-tension multiplayer event, snipers did very, very well. And they did so from a couple of very specific points. Check out that out below and then go back in and murder those sonsabitches for me next time The Burning Shrine comes around.

One other point of note: Some of you have been cheating, and Bungie knows it. While Community Manager Deej didn’t give out exact details of how the cheating has been done – presumably so as to give no pointers to further rapscallions – it can be inferred from his wording, when absolving those suffering from the now-fixed Olive glitch, that tactical disconnects might have come into play. Either way, Bungie is on it, and is now delivering distinctly less welcome, enforced disconnects (both temporary and permanent) to the guilty.

No details yet on the map for the next Trials of Orisis tournament, but with it starting today at 10 am PT / 6 pm GMT, there’s not long to wait to find out.
