Classic British spook show could be heading for US Syfy
Not content with remaking current British telefantasy like Being Human, Syfy US is now raiding the archives for Trans-Atlantic makeovers. According to Entertainment Weekly , Buffy writing duo Jane Espenson and Drew Z Greenberg are writing a pilot for a potential resurrection of ’60s (and noughties) ghost detective show, Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased) . Syfy nabbed rights last May from ITV.
The ’60s version of the show came from the ITC hit factory, and starred Mike Pratt and Kenneth Cope as a pair of detectives, Jeff Randall and Marty Hopkirk. But this was a buddy cop show with a difference – Hopkirk was a ghost. The series was resurrected on BBC1 in 2000, with Vic Reeves as the white-suited ghost Marty Hopkirk, and Bob Mortimer as his living partner in crime-busting, Jeff Randall (it co-starred Tom Baker and Emelia Fox).
