X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer has taken to Instagram to unleash the first glimpse at the forthcoming mutant sequel. The debut piece of concept artwork for the movie comes from artist Grant Major, and depicts a mammoth spaceship:

While Singer and Fox have remained tight-lipped on what the image depicts, there’s no mistaking that it’s some sort of interstellar vehicle. In all likelihood the ship is the one unearthed by the titular villain before he embraces his Apocalypse monicker.
Comic book lore outlines that Apocalypse was born En Sabah Nur. A mutant youngster, he discovers the ship in Ancient Egypt and becomes infused with additional powers. Could that be him lingering in the ship’s shadows?
X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit cinemas on May 27th, 2016.
