Bryan Singer reveals new mutant cast for X-Men: Apocalypse

Hot on the heels of Taron Egerton announcing he won't play young Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, director Bryan Singer has revealed just who will be.

The director Tweeted the news that Tye Sheridan will be playing Cyclops, while Sophie Turner has signed on as the young Jean Grey, and Alexandra Shipp has been cast as young Storm.

Sheridan is best known for intimate indie films like Mud (alongside Matthew McConaughey) and Joe (opposite Nicolas Cage), and X-Men: Apocalypse will be his biggest movie so far.

Meanwhile, Turner shot to fame playing Sansa Stark on Game Of Thrones and Shipp previously appeared in TV movie Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B.

It'll be the first time we've seen the younger versions of Cyclops and Storm on the big screen – a young Jean Grey previously appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand – and we're sure they'll create some interesting problems for returning First Class castmates James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult.

The trio also join Oscar Isaac as the titular villain, who recently revealed that his costume will be a mixture of prosthetics and CGI.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens on 27 May 2016.
