Once he's wrapped work on writing a host of new songs for Muppets Most Wanted , musical maestro and funnyman Bret McKenzie has revealed he's writing a Labyrinth -style fairytale musical comedy that he's billed as 'a mixture of The Muppets and The Princess Bride '.
Since going it alone without Flight Of The Conchords co-creator Jemaine Clement, McKenzie's made a successful move to Hollywood. Not only has he nabbed a part in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy (reprising a blink-and-miss it role in LOTR ), but he nabbed an Oscar for his stellar work on the first The Muppets .
Speaking to Collider , he revealed that he's now working with The Muppets ' director James Bobin to create a new musical adventure that sounds, on paper, pretty darn perfect.
"I'm in the middle of a script for a kind of - it hasn't got a name yet but it’s a fairytale comedy musical, sort of akin to Labyrinth or something like that."
"James Bobin's helping me. I'm the official writer but we're developing it. I want to make a comedy musical with singing dragons and monsters and stuff. [ It's ] live-action, so it would be a mixture of The Muppets and The Princess Bride ."
