Sub Quest 3 – Summoner Asterisk

Availability: Chapter 2

Having traversed the toxic terrain of the Miasma Woods and reached the safe haven of Florem, you’ll get the familiar feeling of unease as you speak to the residents that indicates that all is not as it seems in this little town. After your excursion to the Water Temple, chat to all of the insipid residents and shopkeepers about the insane amount of money they’ve all been shelling out on the mysterious hair accessories everyone seems to be adorned with to prompt a sub quest icon to appear at Florem Gardens.

The purple flowers growing in this dungeon will inflict silence on your party so be sure to have the Dungeon Master support ability set up and a Black Mage with the ability to cast fire to incinerate the various flora inhabiting the garden’s grounds.

This fight isn’t as straightforward as you might think as Mephilia is inclined to call for back up on a whim if she finds herself without companions--after you’ve just slaughtered them for instance. The Legion troops are a constant annoyance, dishing out silence and confuse status effects. Try to take out these goons as soon as they appear before redirecting your energy towards the first of the Venus sisters. A White Mage should be a staple in your party by now, but if not then potions and hi-potions are your bosom buddies for this bout as Mephilia can cause a significant amount of damage when she starts summoning.

Of course, the Summoner asterisk is no fun unless you have some creatures to summon. There are five sages that are guardians of sorts of the various entities you will eventually be able to summon in battle. All you have to do is find them and survive a single, brutal, assault. The good news is that only one party member need survive for you to pass the test. Feel free to visit the sages as soon as they become available but if your party’s defence isn’t high enough to withstand the attack, you’ll leave empty handed.
