Borderlands 2 pre-orders are second only to GTA in 2K history
It's a hit!
In an earnings call today, 2K Gamesannouncedthat Borderlands 2 is already raking in some serious cash. Specifically, they announced that it has become the third most highly preordered game in their history behind only GTAIV and GTA: San Andreas.
That places it above some seriously high-profile games like Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, LA Noire, Bioshock, and Civilization V. We knew that Borderlands made an impression when it debuted in 2009, but clearly this has become a marquis series that can sell with the best of them in the holiday season.
The outlook was not so rosy for some other Take 2 properties though. Both Max Payne 3 and Spec Ops: The Line were cited as having sales numbers that were not up to their expectations.
Though in Max Payne 3's case, those expectations were pretty lofty given that it sold over three million copies. They also mentioned that some titles from the backlog like Red Dead Redemption have continued to sell well years after their release.
