Given that Saul Goodman was often the comic relief in Breaking Bad , particularly as the seasons grew progressively darker, one could be forgiven for assuming that Better Call Saul will be a little lighter in tone than its predecessor.
However, according to star Bob Odenkirk, the new show will be far more dramatic in content than expected, with comedy only accounting for a small part of its makeup.
"It’s total drama, man," said Odenkirk to THR , before slightly softening his stance. "It’s 85 percent drama, 15 percent comedy.”
And with the show set to run in hour-long episodes, Odenkirk is looking forward to getting his teeth into a character who largely existed on the fringes of Breaking Bad .
"That doesn’t happen so much with secondary characters because they don’t need to have that depth," explains Odenkirk. "One of the cool things about playing Saul now is that I get to have those moments. I’ve certainly gotten a chance to dig deep in Better Call Saul ."
Better Call Saul will debut in the US in February, with a UK air date to be confirmed.
