What to expect from Black Friday Xbox controller deals

Let's start from the top. The Elite Series 2 controller is always the one to look out for during sales events. Even as it gets older, it's still one of the best gamepads ever made, and it comfortably gives controllers that launched this year a run for their money. Its list price is still technically $179.99, but we see it discounted a lot more frequently these days its average price tends to be around the $150 mark in total.

The cheaper Elite Series 2 Core model saw prolonged discounts through October and November in 2023, making it a super affordable way to get hands-on with the Elite Series 2. If you buy the accessories pack, or indeed some third-party accessories for it, this could be the most affordable route into a superb controller. We had hoped that prolonged discounts in 2023 might have pointed at a new Elite Series controller coming soon, but we've had no word so far. As third-party officially licensed controllers on Xbox platforms continue to go from strength to strength, it could be worth focusing your budget on them instead.

Then, of course, there are the budget brands, which are as cheap as anything at the best of times. The GameSir G7 SE is excellent value, as are options from Turtle Beach, PowerA, and more. A few new options from these brands have hit the shelves in 2024, but our favorites list still includes the older models, and they'll be well worth spending some money on this November.

The Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra Wireless could be a big one to watch in November. In my opinion, it's one of the very best Xbox controllers of all time, and as more gamepads with four back buttons have been released this year, it's becoming a bit overlooked and underrated. It's highly likely we'll see a solid discount on this pad come November, so keep an eye out for that.

Then there's the Victrix Pro BFG for Xbox, our latest favorite, and one that any competitive player should be keeping an eye on. Not only is there excellent performance here, but the versatility thanks to its modular design is stunning, and gives it lots of scope across so many gaming genres.

New to the race is the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, which is a pretty recent release. It's a bit less likely this will see its first discount in November, but if you want what is likely the best controller Razer has ever produced, maybe wait to see how affordable it gets this Holiday swing.

Ever since playing Journey at the age of 15, I’ve been desperate to cover video games for a living. After graduating from Edinburgh Napier University with a degree in Journalism, I contributed to the Scottish Games Network and completed an Editorial Internship over at Expert Reviews. Besides that, I’ve been managing my own YouTube channel and Podcast for the last 7 years. It’s been a long road, but all that experience somehow landed me a dream job covering gaming hardware. I’m a self-confessing PlayStation fanboy, but my experience covering the larger business and developer side of the whole industry has given me a strong knowledge of all platforms. When I’m not testing out every peripheral I can get my hands on, I’m probably either playing tennis or dissecting game design for an upcoming video essay. Now, I better stop myself here before I get talking about my favourite games like HUNT: Showdown, Dishonored, and Towerfall Ascension. Location: UK Remote
